Facebook is Trying to Get File Sharing Out of the Doghouse

Ten years ago, Napsterwas huge. 70 million users were uploading and trading music, putting it all together in one huge digital pile so that anybody could pick it up. It was social networking unlike anything that had ever been done before. It was using the Internet to access information for free, but the information was copyrighted and therefore made much less profitable when freely distributed. The Record Industry Association of America that had built its empire on a predictable capitalistic system had no choice but to shut Napster down until they figured out how to tame this beast of socialized music.
