The United States has been directly confronted with the reality of religious extremism for nearly a decade, since the 9-11 attack on the World Trade Center. Though interfaith violence is nothing new, the U.S. had the luxury of turning a blind eye to this blight on world society prior to the event that killed thousands and ignited two “wars on terror” abroad in which we are still embroiled.
